Beorn prays to Our Lady of the Winterland region.
Our Lady of the Misty Mountains
Our Lady of the Misty Mountains
Our Lady of the Elves.
Our Lady of the Hobbit Hole, the hobbits pray to Thee.
Unworthy as we are, we shall never cease to proclaim your power, O Theotokos. If you no longer intercede for us, who will deliver us from so many misfortunes? Who will keep us free? We shall never leave you, O Queen: O blessed Lady, you always save your servants from the calamity of the One Ring.
Prayer to Our Lady of Middle Earth
Beorn prays for Our Lady’s intercession (AI art I made).
I was reading Tolkien’s The Return of the King, and the poem “From dark Dunharrow in the dim morning” reminded me of one of the world’s last great men, Emperor Constantine XI Palaiologos, who died with his men defending Constantinople. After he died in battle, Constantinople fell, and as such, the Byzantine Empire had ended; the last vestige of the great Roman Empire.
My previous 4 blog posts were the poem, along with paintings of the Emperor and the battle. Here is Tolkien reading that section of the book:
Doom drove them on. Darkness took them,
horse and horseman; hoofbeats afar
sank into silence: so the songs tell us.
Forth rode Théoden. Five nights and days
east and onward rode the Eorlingas
through Folde and Fenmarch and Firienwood,
six thousand spears to Sunlending,
Mundburg the mighty under Mindolluin,
Sea-kings’ city in the South-kingdom
foe-beleaguered, fire-encircled.
